“The Eurogroup surrounds us with its trust and the Greek economy appears to be resilient,” said the interim Finance Minister Theodoros Pelagidis from Luxembourg and on the occasion of the presentation of the Commission’s report on Greece.

Mr. Pelagidis noted, among other things, that “now is the moment to go even further with economic changes that must be further explained to the Greek people, so that they can support them widely, make them their property”.

In particular, Mr. Pelagidis stated, in the context of the Eurogroup meeting, the following:

“The second post-program surveillance report of the European Commission on the Greek economy was presented at the Eurogroup. The Commission’s report is positive, the report is fair. Eurogroup surrounds us with its confidence.

I found a very good climate for the country, for the Greek economy. It is imperative that the Greek people make this climate their property, because they achieved this with their efforts and sacrifices. To surround this success with appreciation and trust and to take it a little further, a little farther, a little higher.

At a time when other member countries are facing recession and difficulties, the Greek economy appears resilient. However, we must not rest under any circumstances. I want to emphasize this.

Now is the time to go even further with economic changes that must be further explained to the Greek people so that they can support them widely, make them their property. To improve the functioning of markets to generate more income and employment, to improve the quality and provision of public goods. This good moment should not be left unexploited.”
