Federal servants organize a national mobilization this Tuesday (18) to ask for a general salary readjustment. The dissatisfaction began after the Jair Bolsonaro administration pressured Congress to set aside R$ 1.7 billion from the Budget to increase the salary of only federal police officers, who are part of the president’s base.
The protests include a threat of shutdown and are joined by a wide range of careers. There is movement at the base of the civil service and the elite — with groups that have strong power of pressure, such as tax auditors, Central Bank employees and diplomats.
If there is no opening of negotiations, the movement can evolve into a strike – and what was a nod to an allied category can turn into a more serious crisis, causing political damage to Bolsonaro in an election year.
This Tuesday’s Breakfast (18) talks with Idiana Tomazelli, a reporter for leaf in BrasÃlia, which explains Bolsonaro’s political calculations to decide on the increases and what might happen if this movement spreads.
