SA Panel: Aviation Worker Criticizes Cutting Flight Attendants to Overcome Omicron Crisis

by

The release that Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) gave this Monday (17) to Gol and Azul to reduce the number of flight attendants on board in the face of the removal of professionals contaminated with Covid worried workers in the sector.

Ondino Dutra Neto, president of the National Union of Aeronauts, says he is afraid that the flexibility, valid until March, will be renewed.

“What we have observed not only in Brazil, but in many cities around the world, is that, under the pretext of the pandemic, operational rules for aviation are being relaxed. But the pandemic has been there for two years. to three, four. Are we going to continue to make operating rules more flexible? There has to be a limit”, says Dutra Neto.

The original rule requires two flight attendants for planes with more than 100 seats, plus one for each group of 50 passengers or fraction thereof. The protocol used now calculates the number of flight attendants according to passengers. A plane with 186 passengers will be able to fly with three professionals.

According to Anac, the measure was taken to circumvent the effects of the explosion of Covid cases after the arrival of the ômicron variant, which led to the cancellation of flights due to the lack of professionals on leave.

“We understand that we have to be very careful in monitoring this flexibility and ensure that it will not be renewed forever”, says Dutra.
