The Managing Committee of Simples Nacional decided this Friday (21) to extend the deadline to settle the payment of debts until March 31, a measure that was received as a breath by small and medium-sized entrepreneurs framed in the regime.
The change was celebrated by owners of bars and restaurants. Paulo Solmucci, president of Abrasel (association of establishments), says that more than 400 thousand companies in the sector would have to leave Simples Nacional because they would not be able to bring their accounts up to date by the end of January, a deadline previously determined.
According to him, the expectation is now that Congress will override President Jair Bolsonaro’s veto of the Refis law in February.
“From the moment the veto is overturned by Congress, even with the support of the government, companies are able to pay the debt in installments, get their lives up to date and remain within Simples for another year, which is fundamental in this resumption”, he says.
In the opinion of Joseph Couri, president Simpi (Union of Micro and Small Industry of the State of São Paulo), the government is “mending what it has created”, allowing those who are not registered to join Simples Nacional until the end of January to regularize their pending issues within the next 60 days.
“There are 3 million micro-entrepreneurs in default or subject to tax fines. It only signals that it is a problem of the State, not of business management”, says Couri.
