Greek (Turkish) (trade) relations are close: Trade balance with the neighbor is in deficit

Greek-Turkish (trade) relations remain close, despite the tense relations between the two countries due to the divisive policy of the Erdogan government.

According to the Hellenic-Turkish Chamber, which cites data from ELSTAT, the trade relations between the two countries, despite the political problems, reached 4 billion euros and returned to the levels of the year 2016.

In 2020, Greek exports reached 1.3 billion euros, while imports reached 1.5 billion euros. Thus, the total trade between Greece and Turkey for the year 2020 reached 2.8 billion euros.

Comparing the performance of 2021 with the previous year, the total trade increased by about 40%.

According to ELSTAT data (until 31/09/2021, and EIB estimates for the last quarter), Greek exports to Turkey increased by 39%, reaching 1.8 billion euros by the end of 2021 .

It is indicative that Turkey is now ranked 5th as a destination country for Greek products.

Also, Greek imports of Turkish products increased by 46%, reaching 2.3 billion euros. Thus, the trade balance of the two countries remains in deficit for Greece, while the total trade reached 4 billion euros.

Turkey ranks 8th among our supplier countries.
