By decision of the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Haris Theoharis, an extension is given to the submission of income tax returns and a suspension of the collection of certified debts for natural and legal persons, who were affected by the fires of August 2023 in areas of Evros.
The relevant decisions on behalf of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance are part of the Greek Government’s effort to provide practical and multifaceted support to the citizens, who suffered the devastating consequences of the fires last August.
Specifically, as announced by Deputy Minister Mr. Haris Theocharis:
1) An extension of payment and suspension of collection of confirmed tax debts is granted for natural and legal persons, which were affected by the fires that occurred in August 2023 in the areas indicated by the recommendations of 25/08/2023 and 10/9/2023 the Governmental Commission for State Aid. It is further clarified that the above extension and suspension for two months is horizontal and applies to all areas. An exception is the Municipality of Alexandroupolis and Soufli, for whose residents the extension and suspension of tax obligations is foreseen for six months.
2) The deadline for submitting income tax returns for the tax year 2022 is extended by one month, as well as the deadline for paying the first two installments of income tax for the natural persons referred to in Article 3 of Law 4172/2013 who have a residence or business headquarters only in areas of Evros which had been declared in a state of emergency, i.e. a) the Municipality of Alexandroupolis and b) the Municipal Community of Soufli. The extension for the submission of tax returns also applies to natural persons who participate in legal entities and legal entities that keep aplographic books and have their business headquarters in the above areas.
The interested taxpayers are invited to consult the local D.O.Y., in order to be informed precisely about the new deadlines regarding their obligations.
