At slightly lower levels, the stock market closed today’s session, as share prices failed to maintain their high initial gains amid negative sentiment in European markets.

Investor interest was focused on the banking sector following Eurobank’s proposal to buy back the 1.4% of its shares held by the HFSF at a premium of 18% compared to Friday’s close. The bank index closed with an increase of 1.28%, while during the session it recorded gains of up to 4.42%.

The General Price Index closed at 1,215.80 points, down 0.16%.

Intra-sessionally it recorded a higher price at 1,240.26 units (+1.85%).

The value of the transactions amounted to 106.70 million euros, while 23,821,870 shares were traded.

The large-cap index edged up 0.07%, while the mid-cap index fell 0.46%.

Of the high capitalization shares, the biggest increase was recorded by the shares of Piraeus (+2.38%), OPAP (+1.92%), Ellactor (+1.91%), PPC (+1.50 %), of Ethniki (+1.45%), Eurobank (+0.99%) and Alpha Bank (+0.72%).

On the contrary, the biggest fall was recorded by the shares of Viohalco (-3.64%), OTE (-2.44%), Sarantis (-2.35%), Mytileneos (-2.25%) and Terna Energy (-1.76%).

Of the individual indices, the Trade (+1.70%) and Travel (+1.67%) indices recorded the greatest increase, while the Health (-4.64%) and Firsts indices recorded the largest losses Materials (-2.65%).

The largest volume of transactions was presented by Alpha Bank and Piraeus, trading 5,699,458 and 5,177,161 shares, respectively.

OPAP recorded the highest transaction value with 19.19 million euros and Piraeus with 14.89 million euros.

108 stocks moved up, 39 fell and 63 remained stable.

The biggest increase was recorded by the shares: Moda Bango +10.00% and Logismos +6.61%.

The biggest drop was registered by the shares: Elton -14.66% and ELGEKA -9.89%.
