Banco Santander Brasil recorded a net profit of R$ 4.34 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021, which corresponds to a drop of 10.6%, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the balance sheet released this Wednesday. fair (2).

In the last year, the financial institution’s net profit reached the mark of R$ 16.347 billion, up 7% compared to 2020.

The growth of 2.8%, in the quarterly comparison, and of 12.4%, on an annual basis, of the loan portfolio contributed to the results of Santander Brasil, which ended December at R$ 462.74 billion.

“All segments showed growth in the balance in 2021, with emphasis on the consistency of the individual segment, which contributed with 70.4% of the annual variation of the total loan portfolio, and of SMEs, which represented 13.7% of the variation”, inform the bank.

Credit to individuals closed the year at R$ 210.24 billion in December, an increase of 20.6% in the year. In the interval, the products that made the biggest positive contributions were personal/other credit (+33.9%), credit card (+23.2%), mortgage credit (+20.5%) and payroll loans (+10, 8%).

The default rate of more than 90 days ended last year at 2.7%, an increase of 0.6 percentage point, compared to December 2020, and 0.3 point, compared to September 2021.

Among individual customers, delinquency reached 3.6% in December 2021, an increase of 0.66 percentage point in the year and 0.35 point in the quarter. In the case of companies, the default rate was 1.3%, an increase of 0.45 percentage points in the year and stability in the quarter.

“In a more challenging macroeconomic scenario, our credit indicators remain under control, with a slight tendency, already foreseen, for the deterioration of bad debts,” said Angel Santodomingo, CFO of Santander Brasil, in the report.

The indicator that measures the return on average equity (ROAE), which indicates the level of profitability of the operation, was 21.1% last year, practically stable, with a slight negative variation of 0.1 percentage point, in compared to 2020.

“We have started a new stage in our history, we will seek the continuous growth of the business, combining the focus on the best experience for our customers and the generation of value for our shareholders, and mainly committed to the development of the country and our society”, said Mario Leão, executive president of Santander Brasil.

In January, he took over from Sérgio Rial, who in turn became chairman of the bank’s board of directors. “Here, the result always speaks louder, and we once again deliver consistency in profitability to our shareholders,” said Rial.

On Tuesday (1), the bank approved the distribution of dividends and JCP (Interest on Equity) in the amount of R$ 3 billion, with payment from March 4, 2022. In the year, Santander Brasil distributed approximately R$ 12.65 billion in remuneration to its shareholders.
