What we are doing is working, but it needs work and no hesitation in imposing fines, the Minister of Development emphasized
“We have identified the phenomena of profiteering and fines have been imposed while the offenders are also announced,” the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, said on SKAI 100.3 and on the show of Vassilis Chiotis and Elena Laskaris.
In fact, he mentioned that a fine has already been imposed on a school supplies company.
Mr. Skrekas clarified that “investigations, studies and results in other companies are ongoing and in about a week we will see if there are other violations”.
The Minister of Development, among other things, added that checks are also being carried out on detergents and food, imported products which are essential for household nutrition as well as fruit and vegetables.
He pointed out that “prices for the main categories of fruits and vegetables have started to be posted on the e-katanalotis platform in supermarket chains, thus enabling consumers to compare and choose the most economical alternative”.
The Minister of Development underlined that on a daily basis wholesale prices in Greece and prices with the markets of Barcelona and Italy are compared.
“When we started from the 30 products we are studying, 20 products were more expensive in Greece and 10 were cheaper than Barcelona. Within a month and a half and after repeated meetings and checks we have made we have found that this has been reversed and indicatively pumpkins, tomatoes and other products which were more expensive in Greece are now cheaper”, said Mr. Skrekas.
“So what we are doing is working, but it needs work and no hesitation in imposing fines,” the Minister of Development emphasized.
