The explosion in demand for Covid-19 tests in pharmacies, which had been growing since November after the arrival of the Ômicron, registered the first setback in the last week of January, according to the latest data from Abrafarma (a retail pharmaceutical association), which comes monitoring the scenario since the beginning of the pandemic.
Despite the slowdown, January still registered an absolute record of positive results.
In the week of January 24th to 30th, there were about 637,000 tests, a significant drop compared to the more than 740,000 the previous week.
The number of positive tests also dropped from a level of almost 320 thousand to approximately 270 thousand in the last two weeks of January.
The previous drop in the total number of positive cases had taken place in the last week of November, when the number of infected was around 8,170.
For Abrafarma, the new reduction is a positive sign, but it still does not represent effective control of the pandemic.
