SA Panel: Sabesp workers and retirees say the company is a victim in the subway crater

by

Workers and retirees from Sabesp came out in defense of the sanitation company this Friday (4) saying that the company was a victim in the accident of the open crater on the Tietê marginal, in São Paulo.

A group of entities such as AAPS (association of retirees), Sintoema (union of workers) and APU (association of university professionals from Sabesp) released an open letter saying that the root of the accident lies in the distance between the excavation of the tunnel of line-6 and Sabesp’s equipment.

They assess that the repercussion of the case, with pronouncements from authorities and from Acciona, the company responsible for the work, has attributed the accident to the rupture of Sabesp’s interceptor.

“There is no record of occurrences of significant leaks or ruptures in more than 50 years of works involving Metrô-SP and Sabesp”, says the statement.

“The armadillos was too close to the interceptor, it is evident that the causal link was the impact or the equipment’s vibration”, says Norberto Pereira Maia, director of SASP (Sindicato dos Advogados do Estado de São Paulo), an entity that also signs the letter. .

Sabesp and the Metropolitan Transport Department told the SA Panel that they are monitoring the progress of the work carried out by the IPT (Institute for Technological Research), hired to investigate the facts and causes of the accident. They also say that an executive committee was created to monitor compliance with measures by the company responsible for the works and ensure transparency in the measures.

According to the bodies, representatives of entities of the direct or indirect administration of the State and the City of São Paulo and of public service concessionaires can be invited to participate in the works.

Acciona declined to comment.
