The government’s effort to reduce imported inflation is paying off, sources from the Ministry of Development commented today, referring to ELSTAT’s data for November.
As the same sources noted, inflation in Greece fell to 3% in November, compared to 3.4% recorded in October, and, in addition, food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation fell to 9% from 9 .9% in October, reaching the lowest point in the last year and a half (since April 2022).
Important decreases on a monthly basis (October 2023 – November 2023) were recorded in key food categories, such as fresh fruit (-5%) and vegetables (-6.1%) and eggs (-2.75).
The government’s effort continues, as sources from the Ministry of Development said, as within December the universal implementation of the “permanent price reduction” initiative will take effect, bringing shelf price reductions of at least 5% for 1,286 basic consumer products.
At the same time, market controls continue unabated, as since the beginning of the year the Ministry of Development through DIMEA has carried out more than 21,500 controls and imposed fines totaling 10.4 million euros.
