by

Companies in the service sector hurt by the large number of workers laid off by Covid after the wave of the onomicron want to ask the government for help to cover the costs.

The Sescon-SP (Union of Accounting Services Companies of São Paulo) defends that the amounts spent on leaves, such as overtime of substitute employees, be deducted from Social Security contributions.

“Micro and small companies are recovering financially from the pandemic, and this cost makes a difference. The government should assume this burden of removal, within the costs of the INSS”, says Carlos Baptistão, president of the entity.

He states that the proposal will be taken to the national representation of the category and, then, must be forwarded to the government.

According to estimates by Cebrasse (Central Brasileira do Setor de Serviços), companies in the sector had to remove 511,000 employees from their activities because of Covid in January.

Among the businesses that recorded absences, 75% are micro or small.
