The country’s trade deficit increased by 79% last December, as the percentage increase in the value of imports was more than double that of exports. For the whole of 2021, the trade deficit increased by 33.8%.
In particular, according to ELSTAT data on freight transactions:
The total value of imports-arrivals, amounted to 6,246.3 million euros in December 2021 against 4,533.0 million euros in the same month of 2020, showing an increase of 37.8% (excluding petroleum products increased by 869.0 million or 25.1%, while excluding oil and ships increased by 937.1 million or 27.6%).
The total value of exports-shipments amounted to 3,560.7 million euros compared to 3,032.3 million euros in December 2020, showing an increase of 17.4% (excluding petroleum products increased by 317.8 million euros or 14 %, while excluding petroleum products and ships, increased by 384.7 million euros or 17.6%).
The trade deficit amounted to 2,685.6 million euros compared to 1,500.7 million euros in December 2020, showing an increase of 79% (excluding petroleum products increased by 551.2 million euros or 45.8%, while without oil and ships increased by 552.4 million or 46%.
In the whole of 2021, the total value of imports-arrivals amounted to 64,190.2 million euros compared to 48,953.8 million euros in the same period of 2020, showing an increase of 31.1% (excluding petroleum products, it increased by 7,974, 2 million euros or 20.1%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, it increased by 8,057.6 million euros or 20.5%).
THE total value of exports– amounted to 39,894.6 million euros compared to 30,800.2 million euros in the twelve months of 2020, showing an increase of 29.5% (excluding petroleum products increased by 4,743.0 million or 19.7%, while excluding petroleum products and ships increased by EUR 4,777.4 million or 19.9%).
The trade deficit amounted to 24,295.6 million euros compared to 18,153.6 million euros in 2020, showing an increase of 33.8% (excluding petroleum products increased by 3,231.2 million or 20.9%, while without oil and ships increased by € 3,280.2 million or 21.3%).
