Skrekas to SKAI: As long as this huge energy crisis lasts, we will subsidize both households and businesses

by

The Prime Minister’s commitment is that as long as this huge, severe energy crisis lasts, we will support both households and businesses, said Energy Minister Costas Skrekas, speaking on SKAI and on the show The Unmatched with Giannis Ntsounos and Chronos .

He also noted that no one can say for sure how this international crisis will develop, however he added that the government evaluates prices every month and proceeds with subsidies.

We have considered all possible scenarios so that we have all the resources to give the subsidies, said Mr. Skrekas.

He noted that in recent days there has been a very slight de-escalation in electricity prices and a greater de-escalation in gas prices.

There is a 30% reduction in electricity, he added, but natural gas is four times more expensive than last year.

Greece is the only country that has a permanent subsidy mechanism directly on the account, noted Mr. Skrekas.

Asked if there is fiscal space for a larger subsidy, he replied that we give about 400 million euros a month, which means that the money we have is limited to the potential of the Greek economy.
