In the public markets on Saturday, consumers saw upward price changes in most items
While the prime minister assures that the government will do everything to tame accuracy, price increases, especially in food products, do not stop. At street markets on Saturday, consumers saw upward price changes on most items compared to the previous week, while among producers there is grumbling about having to now also have a POS for card transactions.
With inflation in December accelerating to 3.5% and price increases in food to run at almost 9%, consumers are unable to follow the evolution of prices even in popular markets.
The figures from the Vegetable Market of Rentis show that within a week the pumpkins increased 20%, eggplants 27%, cucumbers 17% and spinach 7%
In cauliflowers, the price has doubled compared to last year, 70% is the increase in green onions, 50% in cabbages and 47% in apples.
In addition to the ever-changing prices, consumers on the street have to get used to it and the new reality of POS existence. Ksome of course don’t even want to try.
POS are already starting to make their appearance on the stalls of the lay people, but the complaints of the vendors that they do not have remain.
From March 1 non-compliance with POS installation will bring freelancers and the self-employed into the retail market with fines of 1,500 euros.
The Ministry of Development is threatening new fines the speculators, reminding even that he hates them from 13.5 million euros recently imposed have been collected.
Mitsotakis message: “I will not tolerate the inflation of greed”
“We will fight those who, stepping on an existing global problem, take advantage of chronic market weaknesses and overcharge consumers.
I will not tolerate the inflation of greed. And I have said many times that the state has the power and the control mechanisms to put the market in order. And we will do this to continue to support the incomes of citizens, especially the most vulnerable, as we do all the time.
When the economy is doing well there is a surplus to support our weaker fellow citizens, because I will not tire of saying it: collective prosperity, according to our own ideology, must be converted into individual advantage.
So we have a lot of work ahead of us, in many areas. One thing to know: reforms will move forward but reforms are ultimately the progress that our country needs to make that great leap into the future, to become Europe everywhere. May all Greek women and all Greek men reap this progress” declared Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
