The percentage decreased to 9.2% unemployment in the country last December against an upwardly revised 12.2% in December 2022 and 9.4% in November 2023.
The unemployed amounted to 430,088 people, marking a decrease of 146,424 people compared to December 2022 (25.4%) and by 746 people compared to November 2023 (0.2%).
To women the unemployment rate rose to 11.7% from 16.2% in December 2022 and for men to 7.1% from 8.9%.
By large age groups, in the 15-24 year old group the unemployment rate stood at 22.3% from 30.4% in December 2022 and in the 25-74 age group to 8.3% from 11.2%.
Also according to its labor force survey ELSTATthe employed amounted to 4,264,292 people, marking an increase of 102,064 people compared to December 2022 (2.5%) and by 97,732 people compared to November 2023 (2.3%).
Whereas, people under 75 years old not in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (people neither working nor looking for work), amounted to 3,093,407 people, an increase of 14,960 people compared to December 2022 (0.5%) and a decrease of 99,249 people compared to November 2023 (3.1%).
