I emphasize once again that the project of interfacing the POS with the cash registers is nearing completion and there is absolutely no chance to grant an extension“, emphasized the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis.

Already, despite the certainty of some that we would not succeed, 90% of businesses have either completed the process or have committed to do so with a scheduled appointment by the end of the month.

Any rumors circulating about any extensions are completely unfounded. We will stick to the schedule we have already announced for two main reasons:

The first reason is because the project is included as a milestone in the Recovery Fund. And we will not tolerate that part of the country’s funding is interrupted by Brussels because of the non-completion of this project.

The second reason is because 90% of professionals have already responded to what the law stipulates.

So there is also a question of a level playing field between similar businesses: the many who will have been connected to the tax authorities and the few who will be offered unfair benefits outside the framework of legality.

Both on the issue of connecting POS to cash registers and on the issue of possessing POS in general, controls have already been activated. Fines have already been imposed for not having a POS, and specifically for the issue of not interfacing POS with cashiers fines have also been imposed starting with large businesses with a turnover of over €1 million in cases where an appointment had not been booked by the end of April.

This is a tax fairness issue. The vast majority of professionals have already taken a big step forward and we thank them for it. We invite the rest to follow as the State has no room for delays on this important issue».
