Kikilias: Greece, top choice in the EU for investments in tourism

by

“Tourism, the locomotive of the Greek economy, does not operate in autopilot. The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis has worked hard for 2.5 years to rebrand the country and attract investments that will bring strong growth. The Greek tourism industry has already attracted the interest of large investors from around the world. Greece is currently at the top of the options in Europe for investments in the tourism sector “, pointed out the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias in his speech at AXIA Virtual Roundtable 2022, organized by the AHIA Ventures Group with the participation of about 100 international institutional investors and asset managers, where the perspective of the Greek economy for 2022 and the development axes of the country were discussed.

Mr. Kikilias also referred to yesterday’s announcement of the Bank of Greece for 10.65 billion euros of tourist revenues in 2021, when 6 billion had been budgeted, emphasizing that these are elements that allow optimism for 2022. “The summer season will begin on first days of March. “The reservation figures are particularly encouraging, showing a significant increase in January compared to 2019. At the same time, the large tourist markets give one vote after another of confidence in Greece”, noted the Minister of Tourism, giving specific examples.

“American airlines are launching direct flights from the US on March 7 this year, earlier than ever. With 14 direct flights from 8 destinations during peak season. “Direct flights from Canada start on April 2, while, as the Australian Ambassador informed me, 2022 will be the top year in which Australians will travel to our country, after the lifting of travel restrictions in their country”, he stressed characteristics.

“Greece is the 5th tourist brand in the world”, added Mr. Kikilias. “Our goal is to further improve the Greece brand, with a significant addition. “To establish the country as a sustainable tourist destination that offers a high quality tourism product, and with respect for nature and authenticity will attract millions of visitors each year.”

Mr. Kikilias pointed out that safety is still a key factor for the choice of destination by travelers for 2022 and Greece holds the pole position, given the successful management of the pandemic, especially in the first phase. “Greek Tourism has shown remarkable resilience over the past two years, sending a strong message of safety to travelers. And this will be done this year as well “, the Minister of Tourism underlined.
