The compensations that ELGA has paid for 2023 amount to 180.8 million euros
Today, ELGA, through Piraeus Bank, is paying 38 million euros in compensation to producers’ accounts for losses they suffered in crop production and livestock breeding in the year 2023.
With today’s payment, the compensations that ELGA has paid for 2023 amount to 180.8 million euros, when the income of the organization from the Special Insurance Contribution of farmers, amounts to 170 million euros.
The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis, in his statement points out that with the last compensation payment, ELGA has paid more than 80% of the compensation due for the year 2023, an element that is an example of the organization’s reliability and the consistency that demonstrates towards our farmers – and this is possible thanks to the responsibility of the management and the workers at ELGA.
As he explains, “ELGA ensures its financial stability with the support of the government of the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which promptly, through the Bank of Greece, pays more than 30 million euros for the administrative and operational costs of the organization. Already, for the first half of 2024, 15 million euros were deposited in the Bank of Greece on behalf of ELGA on April 29, 2024, as promised by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Thanos Petralias. The government steadfastly continues to stand by our farmers, especially those affected by natural disasters».
