AADE has done the appropriate preparatory work so that this year’s tax refunds as well as offsets are made even faster
By Chrysostomos Tsoufis
The platform for submitting tax returns has been open for almost a week and yet almost 82,000 taxpayers, the early birds as the AADE commander calls them, have already submitted E1. George Pitsilis.
-43,113 statements, A little more than half, 52.6% to be precise, are zero.
-20,204 statements, about 1/4 or 24.65%, are credit. The resulting average tax refund is €382.3
-18,630 statements, about 1/5 or 22.7% are debited. The resulting total tax payment amounts to €15.78m and the average tax to be paid is €847.
On the contrary, the freelancers who have submitted only 3,913 statements seem to be more hesitant. The new presumptive method of calculation results in an increase in taxation for the majority, so it is not easy to hit the submission button. In addition, E3 is “enriched” with new codes, which contributes to the much lower rate of submission of tax returns.
THE AADE has done the appropriate preparatory work so that tax refunds this year as well as offsets are made even faster compared to what was the case last year.
€1.51 million has already been refunded to 5,570 informed and debt-free taxpayers. The average refund amount resulting from the data processing is €261. According to AADE’s design, those who do not have debts will see the refund money in their accounts within a week of submitting their tax return.
The offsets of the tax to be refunded with any existing debts will also be speedy. The first settlement is expected on St. Thomas’ Sunday, May 12, while the new regime applied provides that:
-Income tax refunds to taxpayers who have no debts (tax and insurance) and are tax aware will be sent every week to the Bank of Greece so that they can be paid immediately
-Tax refunds to taxpayers who only have tax debts will be centrally offset on the 1st and 3rd ten days of each month starting from May 12. Those that cannot be processed centrally, will be processed as soon as possible by the competent Services, DOU / KEBEIS.
-Debts from income tax will be set off as a matter of priority with refund rights, which exist or will arise until 31/7/2024, so that in case of payment of income tax through the set-off, the 3% discount will be granted.
In order not to repeat last year’s phenomena and AADE to “search” for taxpayers in order to return their money to them, from this year it is mandatory to register the IBAN on the AADE website. Last year it was not possible to refund tax to 190,000 taxpayers because AADE did not know where to credit it.
