Panel SA: Nestlé launches WhatsApp robot to answer cocoa producer questions

by

Nestlé launches this week a chatbot on WhatsApp that will answer farmers’ doubts about the cultivation of cocoa in the field. According to the company, the idea is to offer technical information in an accessible and interactive way.

Named Theo after the species’ scientific name, Theobroma Cacao, the virtual assistant works through artificial intelligence.

He uses data from a cocoa plantation commission, from the Ministry of Agriculture, to answer about planting, irrigation, pruning and harvesting the plant.

The action is an initiative of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan program, training producers and cooperatives, launched by the company in 2010. Currently, there are more than a thousand certified suppliers.

According to the company, in 2021, around 25% of the cocoa used in the manufacture of Nestlé chocolates must have the program’s seal, and the goal is to reach the totality by 2025 in Brazil.
