It started as a small unit in Kerameikos to arrive today, 71 years later, to be an important player not only in Greece, but also in the 35 foreign markets where it has a presence.

Its products do not simply travel through time, but evolve, innovate and respond to the trends of each era. The traditional colorful candy balls, which were found unwrapped in the large glasses of food and candy stores several decades ago, have today been replaced (also) by sugar-free candies and chocolates.

The reason for the historic company Lavdas, whose products evoke sweet memories and which was acquired by the also historic ION.

The route

It was 1953 when Fanis Lavdas and Giorgos Paleologos decide to create a small confectionery company. Thus, Pallas is founded, from the initials of the two founders’ surnames (Pal from Paleologos and La from Lavdas) and the small workshop is set up on Kerameikou Street.

In 1958 George Paleologos leaves and the company, which along the way was renamed “Lavdas” passes entirely to Fanis Lavdas.

The workshop is moved from Kerameikos to Papadiamantopoulou street in Goudi and the following year meets with a huge success with milk candies, with the rich taste of butter and the typical cow in the golden wrapper.

Since then the company has achieved one commercial success after another. Another station year it was 1991when Lavdas was launched for the first time, not only in the Greek market but also worldwide, the hard candies with Éclair cream fillinga product with which she made her debut in foreign markets.

Other equally successful and “innovative” products follow: Jelly pop & Super Jelly candies, “Charleston” candies, the Geneva brand (a complete range of premium quality chocolates and pralines), organic candies, etc. but also sugar-free products.

In the meantime, a new factory has been created in Aspropyrgos (where Lavda’s production units are located to this day) where new production lines are constantly being added.

In recent years, Lavdas has penetrated the markets of Europe, the USA, Asia and the Arab states, where it directs more than 50% of its products. The latest great success is the creation of the ZERO product.

The vision

As the company states on its website, “our vision is to create small everyday moments of pleasure. That’s what our delicious candies do. It is the reconnection with our innocent childhood moments and the sweet escape from everyday life.”

At the same time, the company constantly seeks through innovation to offer new quality products, while continuing to invest in Greece with responsibility and perspective, while ensuring the continuation and development of its leading position. In addition, it aims to further develop its exports, aiming to establish itself as a major player in the 35 foreign markets in which it operates.

The financial data

According to the company’s latest financial statements, as posted on GEMI, its turnover in the 2022 fiscal year amounted to 24,423,530.29 euros. Also, profits were made in the year amounting to 806,135.24 euros against losses of 274,736.80 euros in the previous management period.
