Intensive controls are carried out in the Region of Crete, by order of the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete, for the legality of the distribution of alcoholic beverages with the aim of combating the production, trafficking and distribution of irregular-adulterated alcoholic beverages.

The checks are carried out by the Organized Crime Department of the Police Directorate of Crete in collaboration with the General Directorate of the S.D.O.E./Operations Directorate of Attica and the assistance of the Police Operations Department of Heraklion, as during the period from 10.06.2024 to 15.06 .2024 mixed control groups were established. Controls were carried out in businesses – distilleries – distilleries, businesses dealing in alcoholic beverages (cellars) and stores of health interest (bars) in tourist areas of Heraklion and Lasithi prefectures. During the checks, an illegal distillery for the production of alcoholic beverages in Heraklion was located in a specially designed area of ​​a house and two citizens were arrested, while in addition, checks were carried out in twelve stores of health interest, a distillery-wine shop and a distillery and samples of alcoholic products were taken which were sent for analysis to the Chemical Service of Heraklion in order to determine their chemical composition.

These checks will continue in other areas of the Region of Crete with undiminished intensity and will help to prevent, during the period in question, the disposal for consumption and trafficking of illegal alcohol and adulterated alcoholic beverages.
