American actress and director, Angelina Jolie won her first Tony Award as producer of the musical “The Outsiders”, which was nominated in 12 categories.

The show won Tony Awards for Best Musical and in three other categories.

The actress and director took to the stage at the awards ceremony in New York at the Lincoln Center Theater for the Performing Arts with her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne, whom she thanked for helping her win the Tony.

Vivienne, who is one of six children Jolie has with ex-husband Brad Pitt, also contributed as an assistant producer to the hit Broadway production alongside her mother.

The musical’s director Dania Taymor named Angelina Jolie among the “extraordinary women who revived me” in her acceptance speech.

The play is based on the book by S. E. Hinton, who is considered to have introduced the genre of young adult literature, and follows the conflict between two rival gangs of white Americans who are divided by their socioeconomic status.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe also picked up his first Tony Award at Sunday’s ceremony in New York.

Radcliffe won Best Actor in a Musical for his role in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. The play won three other awards at the ceremony, which recognizes the best plays on Broadway.

In his acceptance speech, the English actor wished his father a happy birthday and thanked his partner Erin Dark.

“Dear Erin, you and our son are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you so much, thank you so much” he said.

He also thanked his parents for playing Sondheim in the car and said the project was “one of the best experiences of his life”.
