According to the data of the “World Competitiveness Yearbook”, our country ranks 47th among 67 countries from 49th in 2023
Its position improved by two places Greece in the international ranking competitiveness compiled by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Specifically, according to the data of the “Global Competitiveness Yearbook” published by the Association of Greek Industries, our country is ranked 47th among 67 countries from 49th in 2023, while overall during the five-year period 2020 – 2024 the ranking of Greece improved by two places.
According to SBE, the improvement of the competitiveness of the Greek economy comes from the improvement of our country’s position in three of the four groups of indicators. Specifically, Greece shows improvement:
· By six places in the “Financial Efficiency” indicator category. From 58th place in 2023, our country is in 52nd place in 2024.
· By one position in the “Government Effectiveness” category of indicators. From 53rd place in 2022, Greece ranks 52nd in 2023.
· Up four places in the “Business Efficiency” index category. From 48th place in 2022, the country is now in 44th place for 2023.
In the category of “Infrastructure” indicators, the country remains stagnant, namely in 40th place in the world ranking.
The president of SVE, Loukia Sarantis, commenting on the results, said: “Despite the established climate of uncertainty in the economic situation, which results from the successive international crises, Greece proves that it is charting a successful development course.
For SBE, a necessary condition for maintaining, but mainly for increasing, this dynamic is the intensification of the reform work, with the aim of creating a friendlier environment for business activities and the substantial change of the production model, in which the industry can and must to play an important role.
In the modern and demanding international business environment, necessary measures should be taken to strengthen the competitiveness of our economy. At an extremely critical juncture, in which a de-industrialization trend is manifesting in some European countries, industry – and in general all businesses – in Greece should be supported in practice, in order to successfully face the complex challenges”.
Priorities according to the SBE are:
1. Dealing with the problem of finding the right staff
2. Functional and modern infrastructures (ports, railway network, combined transport).
3. The reduction of development unilateralism and the support of the region.
4. Strengthening extroversion and competitiveness.
5. The energy policy.
6. The creation of a friendlier regulatory environment by reducing bureaucracy and reforming the justice system.
