They were announced by both Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister of State Makis Voridis via SKAI – What is on the table
In September and after the findings from this year’s tax returns have been evaluated, the presumptive method of determining profits for freelancerswith the aim of making the system more efficient and above all to correct some extreme injustices that have been observed.
The upcoming changes have been announced by both the Minister of State, Makis Voridisa week ago on SKAI, as well as the prime minister himself, Kyriakos Mitsotakiswhen he recently referred to this issue right after the European elections.
As he had characteristically noted, “I understand the reaction and the feeling of injustice, but the presumption is “disputable”. And he had added: “we will not go back on the reform, maybe some improvements will be made but the core will not change. Keep in mind that we will only have partial corrections, if there are some gross injustices, which we will now find along the way. There will be no change in the central core of our policy.”
According to information, as soon as the submission of the tax returns is completed, the findings from them will be evaluated and then, where mistakes are found, there will be an intervention so as to give the impression that the injustices are being corrected.
Sources from the Ministry of Finance referring to the matter confirm the intention of changes but note with emphasis that “the basic core of the law will not change”.
However, they avoid getting into the essence, and this because, as they say, few (compared to the expected) statements have been submitted so far and therefore no safe conclusions can be drawn. A few days ago, the press representative of the Ministry of Finance, Homeros Tsapalos, emphasized that “we will see how the tax declarations will go, what tax will come out, if there are cases where there is injustice, where there is excessive tax due to the quotas, due to the various factors and variables that exist in the law, in September and after we will see if necessary if there will be some improvements or point interventions”.
At the same time, the ministry states that if in practice there are distortions or failures in the application of the law, as for example in some professional categories due to a variable that we have put in the law, a very large tax will arise, much, much greater than the income or the turnover of the specific business, there will of course be an intervention. However, the same sources state that “no law is perfect” and that “we do not want to destroy the freelancer”.
According to information, any changes that occur will move along the following axes:
* At the minimum presumptive fee, which may be reduced.
* Family income should be taken into account.
* To be able to make it easier – procedurally – to dispute the presumptions.
* Make more use of artificial intelligence.
* Make cross-references through myDATA.
It should be noted that those self-employed who believe they are wronged by the minimum presumptive income have the possibility to request an audit, revealing, however, detailed information about their income and property situation, as well as their living expenses.
You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about your sources of income, bank accounts, debit, credit and prepaid cards, cryptocurrencies, foreign travel, tuition fees, cash, even spending on insurance premiums, electricity, water and telephone.
