The rational management of available water resources and the effective protection of human and natural capital from possible natural disasters is at the heart of the strategic targeting of the political leadership of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportgiven the worsening climate crisis and its effects.

In this context, a number of projects, large and small, are being implemented throughout the Territory that contribute substantially to:

– To improve the efficiency of the primary sector and ensure sufficient and high quality water supply.

– In shielding entire areas from the risk of flooding.

Last Thursday the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras presented to the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Production and Trade three projects, with a total budget of 319 million euros, which are expected to be contracted in the immediate future.

These concern:

– The implementation of water supply projects in the regional units of Preveza – Arta – Etoloakarnania – Lefkada, with a budget of approximately 141 million euros.

– The Construction of a Dam in the Tsikniatis area of ​​the Lesvos Regional Unit, with a budget of approximately 113 million euros.

– Land Improvement Projects in the Lakeside Areas of Amvrakia – Amfilochia and Valtos of P.E. Etoloakarnania, with a budget of around 65 million euros.

This project is one of the four important projects, together with those that last month, were included for financing in the “Environment and Climate Change 2021 – 2027” Program, in Oreokastro, Loutraki and Ierapetra.

It is recalled that this year the financing loan agreements were signed between the Greek State and the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) for the construction of the dam on the Platis Rethymnon River and the extension of the Messara Irrigation Network in the Region of Crete .

The above projects are a continuation of other similar interventions, of a smaller scope, that the Ministry has launched, such as the modern irrigation network delivered to Heraklia Fthiotida, which covers the irrigation of 3,510 acres of the area, with a budget of 3.5 million euros.

In the same direction, a number of project contracts have been signed for the construction of:

– Irrigation network in Germa, Kastoria, which includes an underground pipeline network with a total length of 31.4 km, with a budget of 3.2 million euros.

– Savings bank in Agiokampos, Larissa Prefecture, budget 19.1 million euros.

– Irrigation networks in the PE of Trikala, with a budget of 13.1 million euros.

– Water transport pipeline dam and reservoir at the “Platania” location of the Municipality of N. Triglia, Halkidiki Prefecture, with a budget of 64 million euros.

As well as for:

– Energy Saving and Leakage Control of the DEVA Thermi Irrigation Networks of Thessaloniki, budget 4.6 million euros.

– Supply, installation and commissioning of automation and telemetry systems for leakage control and water and energy saving of TOEB Nigritas irrigation network, budget 6.1 million euros.

In the same direction, the studies are drawn up:

– the complementary works of the Pinios dam in Ilia,

– the Asopou Dam Irrigation Works N. Korinthia, budget of approximately 5.6 million euros.

Finally, flood protection and rainwater projects in the area of ​​Nea MakrisAttica have been tendered, with a budget of 60 million euros, while the project contract for the arrangement of streams in the area of ​​Oreokastro, Thessaloniki, and the construction of the necessary rainwater networks, with a budget of 11.3 million euros, has also been signed. . euro.
