The power of wind farms connected to the grid at the end of June 2024 reached 5,326 megawatts as in the first half of 2024 33 new wind turbines with a total output power of 96.9 MW were connected to the grid. This corresponds to an annual growth rate of 3.7%
Investments in wind farms totaling more than 110 million euros were connected to the grid during the first half of 2024, according to the Wind Energy Statistics announced by the Hellenic Wind Energy Scientific Association (ELETAEN).
Thus, the power of wind farms connected to the grid at the end of June 2024 reached 5,326 megawatts as in the first half of 2024 33 new wind turbines with a total output power of 96.9 MW were connected to the grid. This corresponds to an annual growth rate of 3.7%.
According to the data announced by ELETAEN:
-The previous year, 2023, was the second – after 2019 – best year with the most wind installations. The number of facilities completed within 2023 is accompanied by a reduction in the growth rate in early 2024.
-At the end of June 2024, around 970 MW of new wind farms were under construction or contracted, the vast majority of which are expected to be connected to the grid within the next 18 months. As a result the total wind capacity will approach 6.5 GW within the next two years.
-At the level of Regions, Central Greece remains at the top of wind installations since it hosts 2,314 MW (43%), followed by Peloponnese with 671 MW (13%) and Eastern Macedonia – Thrace where there are 535 MW (10%).
-During the first half of 2024, new wind turbines were installed only in six Regions of the country: Western Macedonia, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Western Greece, Ionian and Northern Aegean.
“The greater geographical dispersion of wind installations helps the optimal participation of wind energy in electricity generation, which works to the benefit of the energy system and the consumer”, says ELETAEN.
Regarding the business groups, the Top-5 are TERNA Energy with 1034 MW (19.4%), MORE with 766 MW (14.4%), Iberdrola Rokas with 409 MW (7.7%), the Principia with 368 MW (6.9%) and PPC Renewables with 276 MW (5.2%).
