The implementation of dynamic electricity tariffs in order to shift demand to times of the day when there is an excess of “green” energy and prices are lower is among the priorities of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Deputy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou said during her speech today at the 28th Annual Economist Government Roundtable.

The priorities of the energy policy, as mentioned by Ms. Sdoukou, include: even the development of energy storage where a target has been set for 5.4 megawatt units by 2030 as well as domestic and international interconnections. “The Commission must deal with the issue immediately in a more holistic way and Greece will raise it with the new European Commission”, he stressed.

Investors as he noted need a clear regulatory framework, transparency, incentives and tools. He added that the speed of the energy transition must be considered in proportion to the cost.

The president and CEO of ADMIE Manos Manousakis underlined that the completion of the energy transition requires energy storage and interconnections. He referred to the projects promoted by ADMIE for connections with Central Europe, Egypt, Cyprus and Israel, stressing that Greece can become energy independent and at the same time be a crossroads of energy infrastructure, which in times of turmoil plays a big role in the geopolitical hierarchy .

The managing director of the renewable resources and storage unit of the Kopelouzos group. Yannis Karydas, presented the characteristics of the interconnection with Egypt, with a capacity of 3000 megawatts, which the group is developing.

The managing director of the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company, Aristophanis Stefatos, spoke, based on the available information, of good chances to discover significant deposits. He also mentioned progress in the fields of offshore wind farms and carbon dioxide storage.

Finally, Sardelas Petsa Law Firm partner Notis Sardelas referred to the record production and participation of RES in covering the load that lead to a reduction in dependence on fossil fuels while he noted the tightening of the criteria by banks for the financing of RES units.
