The fines provided for each case – How much does the violation for vehicle immobility cost
By Chrysostomos Tsoufis
Scanning electronic checks for uninsured vehicles and vehicles that have not paid traffic fees or have not passed the periodic inspection KTEO, is preparing to launch the AADE. The head of the authority Giorgos Pitsilis communicated the relevant recently passed provisions to the relevant departments regarding the cross-checks that will be conducted at least once every six months.
In the event that a vehicle is found to be uninsured – it is estimated that there are currently around 500,000 such vehicles in circulation – the fines imposed are as follows:
-€250 for the bikes
-€500 for passenger cars and other vehicles of any nature
-€1000 for public use buses and trucks
-For traffic fees, a fine equal to the amount of the fees is imposed if a debt of at least 1 year is established
-If the vehicle is found not to have undergone a periodic inspection by the Central Technical Vehicle Inspection, a fine of €400 is imposed
According to the new law, within 3 months of the notification of the act imposing a fine, a re-check is carried out. If the owner is found not to have complied, then their vehicle license and plates are taken away. License and plates are returned only if the owner of the vehicle provides according to the violation:
-The relevant insurance contract
-The current technical inspection report
– The certificate of non-payment of traffic fees
In the case of a repeat offense (by the same owner, for the same vehicle, within three years of the imposition of the fine) a fine is imposed twice as much as provided for each case and at the same time the license and license plates are removed.
After the fine has been imposed and notified, the owner or occupier of the vehicle has the right to appeal. The appeal is submitted electronically in a special electronic application on the digital portal of the Public Administration within 10 days. The decision on the appeal is made within 30 days.
Controls will also be conducted for any traffic of vehicles that have been declared immobile. In case of violation, a fine of €10,000 is imposed along with the traffic fees and the fine for non-payment thereof.
In case of recurrence, the fine is tripled to €30,000 and the driver’s license is revoked for 3 years.
The new law puts an end to the extensions given each year to the payment of traffic fees which will be collected from now on STRICTLY between November 1st and December 31st.
If they are paid in January, a fine of 25% of their value is imposed
If they are paid in February, the fine is 50%
For a longer delay the fine is equal to the road tax.
