AADE continues its audits of betting companies. According to information, this is an investigation which started on a sample basis, has already been extended to other companies, while, based on the same sources, the control is expected to reach all 19 companies that are active in this sector in our country and have received an official license .

About a month ago, through a leak rather than an official announcement, it became known that a targeted audit by the Independent Inland Revenue Authority identified a gambling and betting service business which, as reported, for four years (2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022) had inaccurately declared withheld taxes. Based on the same sources, this company did not pay taxes, amounting to 10.4 million euros.

The treasure, however, is probably… coal. Information from the company targeted by AADE explains how there is no tax evasion. And the picture presented is clearly attributable to a sudden legislative change in the calculation of the withholding tax, to which the particular business delayed, for a time, to adapt. However, he voluntarily initiated the process of the correct calculation and filing of the amending declarations in cooperation with the competent tax office and the EEEP (Gaming Control and Supervision Committee). According to the company, the relevant amounts, which are a small percentage of the total taxes it pays, were paid immediately upon filing these declarations and months before the AADE audit.

Sources from the company point out the “originality”, where an audit discovers differences without assigning any amount.

Information indicates that the EEEP and the Ministry of Finance are in discussions with the aim of strengthening cooperation between them so that the supervisory authority has information regarding possible audits of gaming and betting service providers. Besides, the companies in the field send their financial data and their financial statements every year to the EEEP, as well as the returns of the participation of the Greek State and the profit tax of the players every month. The financial data of the companies are directly available to the EEEP, through its access to their Central Information System.
