“Electricity prices have fallen from the extreme prices, but they are still high,” said Environment and Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis on the “Today” show on SKAI, explaining that this happened because “there was a decoupling with the Bulgarian market.”

Referring to the measures and taxes on producers, the minister emphasized that they still cannot be determined “as we still do not know how much the skyrocketing profits are. If electricity prices fall, the tax is reduced,” he explained.

Mr. Skylakakis also emphasized that the prices that were formed in the last 10 days in all the Balkans, gave natural gas 6-7 times the cost.

The minister mentioned as an example the businesses that have high bills. “If they can’t pay the increases they have the option from August 1 to change the color of the invoice.”

“The intervention was done in an extreme phenomenon, it is not right to intervene when the market is working properly”, he noted, stating that the fact that the megawatt could be 300 euros and not 800 euros while the cost is 100 euros, shows that something is not right go well

Regarding the power outages, the minister said that they are due to faults. “Last year we had 70 outages and this year 20 a day,” he said, adding that “at the moment we have a grid with more RES and it’s more robust.”
