Globo sells 21 sponsorship quotas and closes unprecedented deal with Apple for the Olympics

Globo will have 21 sponsors in the broadcasts of the Paris Olympics, which officially begin this Friday (26). In addition to a double sale to Petrobras, the broadcaster closed an unprecedented deal with Apple.

The technology giant has purchased a share of the brand’s shares, which will allow it to appear during the broadcast of a specific sport during the competition. It will also appear in the top 5 seconds before the event begins. This will be the first time that Apple has advertised at a Brazilian TV event or program.

To enter the business, the American company spent R$5 million. Six brands are sponsoring the broadcasts on open TV: Claro, Corona, Nivea, Piracanjuba, Banco do Brasil and Superbet.

Four others are only on SporTV, Globo’s sports channel on pay TV: KTO, XP Investimentos, Netshoes and Samsung. Nine other brands acquired shares or top five-second spots. In addition to Apple, there are Samsung, Zurich, P&G, Petrobrás, Hellmann’s, McCain, Suzano, Havaianas and Esportes da Sorte.

The transmissions

The studio designed by Globo for the Paris Olympics took a year and a half of planning to be completed. The project was designed by Fernando Alonso, Globo’s technology director. With 8K LED screens, it will host the Olympic Center on open TV. The program will be hosted by Tadeu Schmidt and Fernanda Garay, in addition to Ça Va Paris, with André Rizek and Fabi Alvim, on SporTV.

Globo will provide multiplatform coverage of the Paris Olympic Games. On free-to-air TV, there will be more than 200 hours of broadcasts, closely following the trajectory of Brazilian athletes, with daily broadcasts between 4 am and 6:30 pm. On SporTV, there will be four channels available, one of which will have a 4K signal, and more than 1,000 hours of live coverage. The promise is that 100% of the event will be broadcast.

Globoplay will also bring together coverage from TV Globo and SporTV on the platform, providing up to 45 signals to bring all the matches as they are happening.
