A large increase in household and business deposits by 3.8 billion euros in June, to 195 billion euros, data from the Bank of Greece show. Most of the increase concerns businesses whose deposits increased by 3 billion euros.

In total, private sector deposits (including those of credit institutions and insurance companies) according to the data of the Central Bank increased by 3.8 billion euros, compared to an increase of 577 million euros in the previous month and the annual rate of change increased to 5.0% from 3.1% the previous month. In particular, the deposits of non-financial companies increased by 3,283 billion. euros, compared to an increase of 559 million euros in the previous month.

Deposits of insurance companies and other financial institutions decreased by 232 million euros, against an increase of 18 million euros in the previous month. General government deposits increased by 137 million euros in June 2024, compared to an increase of 60 million euros the previous month and the annual rate of change was -21.8% from -27.0% the previous month .

On the lending side, the monthly net flow of financing to businesses in June 2024 was positive at €3.158 billion, compared to a positive net flow of €105 million in the previous month, and the annual rate of change increased to 10.3% from 8.3% in the previous month.

In particular, the annual rate of change in financing of non-financial corporations (NFCs) increased to 9.4% from 7.6% in the previous month. Their monthly net funding flow was positive by 2,633 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 78 million euros in the previous month. The annual rate of change in the financing of insurance companies and other financial institutions increased to 17.0% from 13.7% in the previous month. Their monthly net funding flow was positive by €525 million, compared to a positive net flow of €27 million the previous month.

The annual rate of change in total private sector financing rose to 6.1% from 4.8% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of total financing to the private sector was positive by €3.313 billion, compared to a positive net flow of €66 million in the previous month. The monthly net flow of funding to general government in June 2024 was negative at €852m, compared to a positive net flow of €597m the previous month. The annual rate of change in general government funding stood at 0.0% from -0.5% in the previous month.

The monthly net flow of funding to individuals and private non-profit institutions was positive by €88 million in June 2024, compared to a negative net flow of €32 million in the previous month. The annual rate of change in their funding was -0.9% from -1.0% in the previous month.

As a result of the above, the annual rate of change of the total financing of the domestic economy was 3.7%, in June 2024, from 2.7% in the previous month.
