It is progressing rapidly the modernization of the DEDDIE Networkas an important project was completed a few days ago network undergrounding in Atticawith the undergrounding of the network from the entrance of Lavrio to the settlement of Agios Konstantinos in Kamariza.
More specifically, the overhead network of the Lavrio line, which supplied the area of ​​Anavyssos and passed through the forest section along the length of the Souni National Forest, has now been deactivated, as the new 6 km long underground cable was electrified in the previous days.
The transformation of DEDDIE, with priority given to the modernization of the electricity distribution network, includes important undergrounding projects which are underway in many regions of the country. The projects are carried out, as a matter of priority, in areas with forest lands in which the risk of damages and fires is greater.
In the last 4 years, the undergrounding of the Network has been implemented at a very rapid pace compared to the past. It is indicated that the underground network from 26,075 km nationwide in 2018, reached 27,500 km in 2022 and up to the end of the first half of 2024 has reached 29,531 km. In 2022, the rate of implementation of a new underground network was double that of 2019, with a 158% increase, while in 2023 it was also double that of 2022, showing an increase of 108%.
It is noted that in the 2023 – 2030 business plan of DEDDIE, an amount of 267 million euros has been provided for undergrounding projects, part of which is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF).
