A powerful weapon in the battle against undeclared overtime work – and consequently in favor of improving workers’ incomes – is proving to be the digital work card.

According to the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Niki Kerameos, in almost all branches where the measure was applied, aincrease in overtime reported.

As reported by Kathimerini, the data from the “Ergani” information system show that since 2022, when the implementation of the digital card began as a pilot, there has been a steady increase in overtime.

The 2022 were declared 2.56 million hours of overtime – an increase of 39% compared to 2021, when only 1.87 million hours were recorded.

The 2023 we had 2.68 million hours of recorded overtime, increased by 4.7% compared to 2022.

By industry:

– In supermarkets in 2022 an increase in declared overtime of 24.5% was observed, which continued in 2023, close to 30%
– In banks, the cumulative increase in overtime is approaching 14%
– In retail trade and industry (where the measure was implemented within 2024) there is over a 10% increase in overtime declared within this year, compared to the corresponding 7 months of 2023.
