Panel SA: Volkswagen launches electric car factory project

Volkswagen’s board on Friday approved a €2 billion investment in the new electric car factory that will be near its headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2023.

According to the automaker, from 2026, production of its Trinity electric model will be carbon neutral, with new standards in driving range.

Volkswagen designs the new plant to become a model for the existing main unit and the entire company. The German’s expectation is also to expand battery, charging and digitalization activities to strengthen competitiveness.

“We are setting benchmarks in the automotive industry with Trinity and the new plant and turning Wolfsburg into the global beacon of high-end, efficient vehicle production. This reaffirms that the economic transformation of Germany as the center of the industry can be achieved”, says the CEO of Volkswagen, Ralf Brandstätter, in the statement.

Volkswagen also announced specific investments in employee training for the digital age. The automaker wants to have around 4,000 qualified professionals by 2030 to perform new functions and another 8,000 improved.
