The percentage of completion of the mining project in Skouries of Halkidiki has reached 76%, according to the information given today Monday by the management of Hellinikons Chrysos to the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou, who visited the facilities.

As part of the visit, the Deputy Minister was informed in detail about the latest developments in environmental technologies and safety protocols applied to the project, including leading technologies in the field of water and waste management, parallel restoration and environmental monitoring.
The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou, said: “I am today at Skouries, a project that marks a new era for the Greek mining industry. My visit here is to see the progress of the work up close and to assure that the ministry is closely monitoring the progress of the project. Skourion mine is a project of strategic importance for our country. It will contribute to the strengthening of the economy, to the creation of new jobs with priority recruitment from the local community, as well as to the strengthening of the competitiveness of our country on the world map of metals. I am particularly pleased to find that the work is progressing at a fast pace and according to the schedule, with the aim of its completion within 2025. At the same time, I want to emphasize that the government places special emphasis on the protection of the environment. Companies implementing such projects must strictly adhere to environmental conditions and apply the most modern technologies to reduce the environmental footprint. Skouries will be the model to be followed by other similar investments, making Greece an attractive destination for investments in the field of Mineral Raw Materials, especially after the European Union’s shift to its independence from third countries.”
Eldorado Gold President and CEO George Burns commented: “We are grateful for the opportunity to provide the Deputy Minister with a comprehensive presentation of developments at Skouries, which reflect our commitment to protecting the environment, enhancing the well-being of local communities and promoting sustainable development throughout the life of the project. We remain unwavering in our belief that Skouria’s project can play a central role in Europe’s green transition, while positioning Greece as a global hub for sustainable mining. Our commitment to making Skouries a model mine remains steadfast, promoting economic growth while protecting the environment. We would like to thank the local communities, authorities and government for their continued cooperation.”
