The main topic of the consultations will be the conclusion of the Scientific Committee on the integration of the European directive on adequate minimum wages
The initiative to start a new round of contacts with the national social partners was taken by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Niki Kerameoswith his participation General Secretary of Labor Relations, Nikos Milapidis.
The main subject of the consultations will be the conclusion of the Scientific Committee on the incorporation of the European Directive on adequate minimum wages and the procedure for determining the minimum wage proposed therein.
Specifically, the proposal concerns the use of a mathematical formula as a more objective, predictable and transparent way of calculating the minimum wage, based on the example of the French system and similar systems of other European countries. The mathematical formula is proposed to take into account inflation and the increase in productivity of the economy.
At the same time, it is proposed to create a Consultation Committee, which will consist mainly of representatives of the social partners, in order to formulate an opinion on the level of the legislated minimum wage and its updating, thus upgrading the role of the social partners in the process. In addition, it is proposed to draw up a road map (“action plan”) to strengthen collective bargaining and increase the percentage of workers covered by collective bargaining, with the active participation of the social partners.
It is worth noting that the conclusion was delivered to the Minister by the President of the Committee, Professor Patrina Paparrigopoulou on October 8 and in a period of just one week Ms. Kerameos activates the dialogue on this critical issue, with the curtain of meetings opening with the GSEE .
The meeting of the Minister and the General Secretary with the representatives of GSEE is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, and then consecutive meetings with the representatives of the other national social partners (GSEBEE, ESEE, SETE, SBE, SEB) will follow.
It is recalled that Ms. Kerameos has already held a first round of talks with the representatives of all the national social partners, within the framework of the Labor Social Pact that she is promoting, immediately after assuming her duties as Minister of Labor and Social Security.
