His renewal for a second two-year term comes at a critical time for the European metals sector, which is facing unprecedented challenges
Evangelos Mytilineos, President and CEO of Eurometaux, the European Association for the Non-Ferrous Metals Industry, was re-elected METLEN Energy & Metals, during the General Assembly. His renewal for a second two-year term comes at a critical time for the European metals sector, which faces unprecedented challenges but also significant opportunities.
During his first term, Mr. Mytileneos oversaw the active participation of Eurometaux in the formulation of the Deed for the Critical Raw Materialsan effort that underscored the vital role of metals for Europe’s strategic autonomy. In the future, the Union will prioritize the implementation of the Act, ensuring that Europe’s metals industry can meet the growing demand for raw materials necessary for clean energy technologies.
Evangelos Mytileneos, President and CEO of METLENemphasized:
“It is an honor to continue to serve Eurometaux as its President. Over the past two years, our industry has faced extraordinary challenges, from energy price hikes to supply chain disruptions. Despite this, we have made great progress, notably with the adoption of the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act, which sets ambitious targets for extraction, processing and recycling capabilities. We have also succeeded in bringing industrial competitiveness to the top of the EU’s political agenda. Metals are the lifeblood of Europe’s industrial strategy to drive the green and digital transition. As we look ahead, we call on lawmakers to respond to our demands with decisive action, ensuring that Europe’s metals producers can thrive in a competitive and sustainable environment.”
THE Guy ThiranGeneral Manager of Eurometaux, commented:
“Eurometaux will continue to work under the guidance of Mr. Mytilinaios in the midst of a critical period, where the role of metals in promoting Europe’s “green” and digital transitions has never been more crucial. Under his leadership, Eurometaux has emerged as one of the key interlocutors in shaping the EU’s industrial future, with great opportunities and insurmountable challenges, securing a place at the center of the EU’s political agenda».
Over the next two years, Eurometaux will prioritize working with the European Authorities both in Brussels and in the Member States to design and implement the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal. A key priority will be to support the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act to ensure that the intended targets are met. First and foremost, this means securing a globally competitive energy supply for industry, and Eurometaux is already working with the institutions with concrete proposals that will achieve this. Other key priorities include the reform of European chemicals legislation (REACH), the EU Emissions Trading System and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the implementation of the new EU due diligence policies and the sustainable products framework.
