SA Panel: Leader of truck drivers from 2018 strike complains about effects of war in Ukraine

by

Since Monday (7), the leaders of truck drivers have raised the level of concern about the effects of the war in Ukraine on the costs of their trips.

In addition to the fuel price impasse, the pollutant reduction agent Arla 32, used in diesel vehicles, has become more expensive at gas stations due to the increase in urea in the international market, according to Wallace Landim, aka Chorão, leader of the truck drivers who became known in the great stoppage of 2018.

According to the CNA (National Confederation of Agriculture), urea increased by 300% last year. With the war in Ukraine and the embargo announced by Putin this week, the rise in the price of the input should continue.

The CNT (National Confederation of Transport) states that the irregular use of Arla 32 or its absence increases the emission of polluting gases by up to five times by the vehicle, which can lead the driver to answer for an environmental crime. The penalty includes a fine and retention of the vehicle.

Chorão also says that self-employed drivers are having trouble getting gas in recent days.

This Tuesday (8), the Ipiranga chain sent a statement to the stations warning that it will start to analyze requests for diesel before releasing the sale because of the soaring oil prices.

In the notice to customers, the company says it is prioritizing its dealer network and its business customers.

For Chorão, the government needs to be sensitive and remove the PPI (import parity price) as quickly as possible. “The president needs to have the courage to withdraw the parity. We don’t get paid in dollars”, he says.
