After going viral on the internet with the photo of the celebration of his birthday, the retired Andrelino Vieira da Silva, called “the terror of the INSS” by the family, was honored by the government last Monday (7). Silva received a plaque congratulating him.

“It is a great pride to have you as a beneficiary of the INSS. It’s been 121 years of a history that goes beyond the very existence of Social Security in Brazil and deserves to be celebrated. This tribute is a sign of our affection, respect and admiration. Congratulations! Strong hug”, reads the message, signed by the president of the INSS, José Carlos Oliveira, and by the minister of Labor and Welfare, Onyx Lorenzoni.

The retiree’s birthday is celebrated on February 3. To commemorate the date, the family made a themed cake with the Social Security symbol. The candle shows that he would be turning 121 years old. On the top of the cake is written “The Terror of the INSS”.

The photo, posted on social media of one of the granddaughters, went viral. According to the INSS press office, it was at this moment that the president of the institute and the Minister of Labor and Welfare decided to pay tribute to highlight that the insured is not a terror, but the reason why the servers work.

Silva is a resident of Aparecida de Goiânia (GO), which is 20 km from Goiânia and 912 km from the city of São Paulo. According to his family, he was born in February 1901. The retiree has children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren.

The Social Security, with a model of releasing benefits very similar to the one we know today, was created in 1954, in the government of Getúlio Vargas, that is, it is 68 years old. Since then, it has undergone several changes and reforms, such as the one in 2019, which established a minimum age in INSS retirements for all new policyholders.

Tribute was paid from a distance

According to the INSS press office, the plaque was sent to the insured and a video was also sent to the family, through one of the granddaughters. With the Covid-19 pandemic and the age of the retiree, the body thought it prudent to do everything from a distance.

The minister and the president of the INSS decided not to travel to Aparecida de Goiânia and also chose not to take the retiree to the institute’s headquarters to receive the tribute to keep his health safe.
