Three contracts for projects in the field of education and sports were signed by the regional governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, with the mayors of Korydallos, Glyfada and Kaisarianis, for the implementation of projects that will upgrade the local communities.

In particular, with the Mayor of Korydallos, Nikos Khoursalas, the project of the energy upgrade of 10 school units with a total budget of 5,031,000 euros was signed, with the Mayor of Glyfada, George Papanikolaou, the project of upgrading a school unit with a budget of 537,000 euros, and with the Mayor of Kaisarianis, Ilias Stamelos, the project of replacement of the synthetic turf in the auxiliary football field “Mich. Kritikopoulos”, with a budget of 416,000 euros. The financing of the above will come almost entirely from resources managed by the Region of Attica, specifically from the “Attica 2021-2027” program regarding energy upgrades and from own resources regarding the replacement of the turf.

As Mr. Nikos Hardalias characteristically stated: “Today we are proceeding with another step in the modernization of the infrastructure in Attica. With the new contracts we signed, we are upgrading the energy of the schools in Korydallos and Glyfada and offering safe and modern sports facilities in Kaisariani. These are interventions that not only improve the everyday life of students and athletes, but at the same time strengthen the sustainable development and energy efficiency of public buildings. We invest in the next generations and in sports, two pillars that ensure a better future for all of us. Through this process, we want to create an educational and sporting ecosystem that encourages creativity and excellence, giving our young people the best possible opportunities for their future.”

Energy upgrade of 10 schools in the Municipality of Korydallos

The project aims to improve the operation of the city’s educational infrastructure and, by extension, the learning conditions of the children. The implementation is assigned to “Building Infrastructures SA”, the single construction organization of the state, with a total budget of approximately 5 million euros, with the completion of the works expected within a year and a half.

The selection of the schools to be upgraded was based on the needs of each complex and concern the following:

  • 1st & 25th Kindergarten of Korydallos
  • 3rd Kindergarten of Korydallos
  • 4th Primary School of Korydallos
  • 5th Primary School of Korydallos
  • 9th Korydallos Primary School
  • Korydallos 4th & 5th High School
  • Korydallos 7th Gymnasium
  • 3rd Lyceum of Korydallos
  • 4th Lyceum of Korydallos
  • 5th Lyceum of Korydallos

The upcoming interventions will mainly concern the following actions:

  • Thermal insulation: Installation of thermal facade and roof insulation, with the aim of reducing heat losses and ensuring thermal comfort for students.
  • Upgrading windows: Replacing old and inefficient windows with new, energy-efficient ones that will reduce energy waste.
  • Lighting: Replacing old light fixtures with modern LEDs, which are more efficient and environmentally friendly.
  • Heating and cooling systems: Modernize heating and cooling systems to improve energy efficiency and air quality.
  • Photovoltaic systems: Installation of photovoltaic systems, which will contribute to the production of clean energy, reducing the running costs of schools and the dependence on conventional energy sources.

Upon completion, it is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 1,579 megawatt-hours per year, leading to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and enhancing the environmental sustainability of school facilities. In addition, students will have a safer and healthier environment for learning, which will promote the educational process. However, the project is also expected to bring purely financial benefits, as the reduced energy costs will allow for better utilization of the Municipality’s resources for other educational actions and programs.

As the Mayor of Korydallos, Nikos Hoursalas, pointed out after the signing of the relevant contract: “This is a very important development, because a very large program of energy upgrading of the school units is starting. Upgrading the school infrastructure is a priority and that is why we try to use every source of funding in order to improve the everyday life of the students. We thank the Region of Attica and Nikos Hardalia for the cooperation as well as the executives and administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Energy upgrade of a school unit of the Municipality of Glyfada

The project concerns the energy upgrade of the building of the 30th Primary School of Glyfada, located at the junction of Palmyras and Andreas Papandreou streets. The implementation is entrusted to “Building Infrastructures SA”, the single construction organization of the state with a total budget of approximately 400,000 euros, with the completion of the works expected within a year and a half.

In particular, it provides, among other things:

  • The replacement of frames,
  • the thermal insulation of the roof,
  • the external thermal insulation of the walls,
  • the replacement of the central heating boiler,
  • the operations to improve the boiler room in connection with the Natural Gas network,
  • the replacement of split-type air conditioners,
  • the replacement of the existing lighting fixtures and the installation of a Photovoltaic System (Net Metering).

As the Mayor of Glyfada, George Papanikolaou, pointed out after the signing of the relevant contract: “This is a very important intervention in one of the oldest primary schools of our city, in the largest school of our city, the 30th Primary School of Glyfada. We thank Mr. District Governor very much for all this cooperation, we hope that this project and the infrastructure available for our children in the 30th Primary will be upgraded in the best possible way.”

Replacement of synthetic turf in the auxiliary field “Mich. Kritikopoulos” of the Municipality of Kaisariani

This project will benefit approximately 7,000 athletes who train at the ground, enhancing the facility’s usability for all age groups and local clubs. The existing turf, which was installed in 2008, has suffered wear and tear from use and the passage of time, making replacement imperative. The new facility will contribute to the improvement of training conditions and the safety of athletes.

The upgrade of the football field includes the process of removing the old turf and installing a new one, an area of 5,307 sq.m., with dimensions of 95.80m x 55.40m for the playing field, which will meet modern specifications. It will be made of polyethylene and will have a filling system with quartz sand and recycled rubber, ensuring high levels of durability and safety. Completion of the works is expected to take approximately 4 months, offering the athletes an upgraded sports area.
