Panel SA: Restaurant association says taking stroganoff off menu is xenophobia

by

The protest of some bars and restaurants that decided to remove stroganoff and vodka from the menu to take a stand against the invasion of Ukraine was contested by Abrasel, an association that brings together establishments in all states.

The organization says that it is against the war and that the sector must oppose the conflict, but being careful not to help stimulate hatred.

For Abrasel, the idea of deleting a Russian recipe and ingredient from the menu may even be well-intentioned, but it does nothing for the victims of the war and still foments xenophobia against the Russian people.

The entity also states that bars and restaurants are democratic environments and not a stage for prejudice.

Bar da Dona Onça, in downtown São Paulo, was one of those that suspended the stroganoff offer, but later backtracked. Empório Manuel, in Itaim Bibi, changed the name of the dish to Picadinho Manuel. At Piselli, the Moscow mule drink became known as Kiev mule.
