Milwaukee Bucks superstar announces Build Your Legacy Ventures Thursday – ‘This fund isn’t just about capital,’ says Giannis
International basketball player and NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo is aiming for a new “business three-pointer”, and according to the Bloomberg agency, one of his investments is in women’s basketball.
The Milwaukee Bucks superstar announced Thursday Build Your Legacy Ventures, a venture capital fund that will focus on investments in sports, entertainment and technology.
Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA MVP, hopes to help connect entrepreneurs with investors who will be able to grow their businesses. The fund has already invested in Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league. Antetokounmpo is also an investor in the American professional baseball team Milwaukee Brewers.
As Bloomberg reports, Antetokounmpo joins an ever-growing list of professional athletes turning to venture capital investments. Among these athletes are Andre Iguodala, Kevin Durant and Serena Williams.
For Bloomberg, this shift represents a development in professional sports, as the earnings of athletes are constantly increasing. Antetokounmpo’s last two contracts totaled over $400 million.
The creation of the Build Your Legacy Ventures fund will be based on Antetokounmpo’s personal portfolio. “This fund is not just about funds,” Antetokounmpo emphasizes in his statement. “It’s about forging partnerships and opening up my network.”
