The municipality of Athens is expected to reduce municipal fees for socially vulnerable citizens, as part of the municipal authority’s policy to support them. However, there will be a small increase in the fees related to the occupation of public space.

According to reliable information, the Municipal Authority has decided to proceed with zero municipal fees for four categories:

  1. For people with a disability of more than 80%
  2. For single parent families
  3. For those entitled to support due to “energy poverty”
  4. For large and three-child families

The same information states that as part of the rationalization, there will be small increases in fees for occupying public space and for advertising. As argued by the Municipality, this increase is remunerative, because the amounts collected will be used to improve municipal services (cleaning, lighting, sidewalks, etc.).

So, these increases are expected to be:

  • – By 10% the fees for table seats, occupation of common space by shops, fuel tanks in common space.
  • – By 15% the advertising fees and for the tourist signs.

The increases do not concern the municipal fees of the citizens, which will remain constant, and they do not concern shop windows either, but only the display of products in a public space.

What they say from the Municipality of Athens is that the primary goal is to manage the finances and they repeat that they received large deficits and financial burdens, such as the high waste burial fees and the increase in the salary costs of the remunerative services.
