The Bank continues to play a leading role in supporting green growth and strengthening the extroversion of Greek businesses
Alpha Bank, having as its main strategic priorities the support of green development and the strengthening of the extroversion of Greek businesses, proceeds to provide financing of a total amount of €300 million. towards her METLEN Energy & Metals company for the construction of 5 photovoltaic parks, with a total capacity of 408.5 MW, in Romania.
As the bank states in its announcement, the projects, with a total budget of €292 million, which are expected to be completed gradually within 2025 and by the second quarter of 2026, are part of METLEN’s Asset Rotation Plan and are being built for two large Greek energy companies groups.
With its decisive contribution to the implementation of these projects, Alpha Bank proves in practice the realization of the goal of credit expansion outside Greece and also the support of the development of Greek businesses abroad, thanks to the experience and know-how of its Executives.
In fact, it is the first and only Greek Bank to adopt the Wholesale Banking structure in sectors (such as the Power & Utilities sector), having developed a high level of specialization in the financing of the energy sector, with an emphasis on investments that promote green growth and energy transition (Renewable Energy Sources, energy storage, network upgrade).
In this context, the Bank has disbursed the latter 18 months above €1.1 billion in green loansof which €550 million in RES.
Regarding the financing to METLEN Energy & Metals for the project in question, Chief Wholesale Banking Yannis Emiris stated:
“The support we provide for the construction of the five new photovoltaic projects of METLEN Energy & Metals in Romania highlights the leading role of the Bank as a financier but also as an advisor to large Greek companies that innovate and excel in the implementation of projects and investments outside borders, contributing to its extroversion Greek economy. At the same time, it confirms Alpha Bank’s commitment to green development.
Sustainability financing is a key pillar of our strategy, aiming to contribute to tackling the consequences of climate change and the transition to a zero emission economy. We are determined to scale up our efforts in this direction and are proceeding to upgrade our goals for concluding “green” loans for the three-year period 2024-2026 from €3 billion. to €4.4 billion”.
