La Liga was quick to pick up the… unsorted and took back a decision that would change football as we know it to this day.
After huge reactions caused, the Spanish Federation announced that the… historic, as he described it, game between Villarreal and Barcelona which would be played in Miami, as part of the Spanish championship, is not going to happen.
OR Federation in a statement she declares her disappointment that such an effort to globalize football has hit a wall, however, she emphasizes that she will not stop her efforts here.
La Liga’s announcement in detail:
“LALIGA announces that, following discussions with the organizer of the official LALIGA match in Miami, it has been decided to cancel the event due to the uncertainty that has been created in Spain in recent weeks.
LALIGA expresses its deep regret that this project, which represented a historic opportunity for the international expansion of Spanish football, will not be able to proceed. Holding an official match outside our borders would be a decisive step for the global development of the competition, strengthening the international presence of the clubs, the position of the players and the visibility of Spanish football in a strategic market such as the United States.
The project fully complied with all federal regulations and did not affect the integrity of the tender, as confirmed by the competent authorities responsible for ensuring compliance, who opposed it on other grounds.
In an increasingly competitive global environment, where leagues such as the Premier League or competitions such as the UEFA Champions League continue to expand their reach and ability to generate revenue, initiatives such as this are essential to ensure the viability and growth of Spanish football. Forgoing such opportunities prevents the generation of new revenue, limits the ability of clubs to invest and compete and reduces the international visibility of the entire Spanish football ecosystem.
Finally, we would like to thank the clubs for their willingness and cooperation in this project, as well as their continued commitment to the development of the competition. From LALIGA, we will continue, as always, to work to bring Spanish football to every corner of the world, promoting an open, modern and competitive vision that benefits clubs, players and fans.”
