The commercial operation of two new gas turbine units has begun at the PPC Group Power Station in Santorini – Monolithos Thiras area. With a total rated power of 30MW and an efficiency rating of 33%the new units will contribute to ensuring energy sufficiency of the island in view of the summer season.

The two new, state-of-the-art gas turbine units, combined with the two existing ones, will cover up to 50% of Santorini’s energy needs during the summer months, when peak demand is recorded.

At the same time, the new gas turbine units have all modern systems for reducing emissions of gaseous pollutants and particles. The noise level, which does not exceed 65 db at the boundaries of the Station, will be lower than that of the existing units, which reduces the environmental footprint.

Four additional major new power projects are underway in Insular Greece

Four additional projects in Insular Greece are included in PPC Group’s plan for the next 12 months, with a total power of more than 300MWwith the aim of modernizing the production stations and the energy sufficiency of the islands. Specifically, in Heraklion of Crete, Soroni of Rhodes, Chios and Lesvos, it is planned to replace existing units with modern, gas turbine ones, which fully comply with the requirements of the environmental legislation of the European Union and Greece.

The new gas turbine units are expected to increase the production capacity of the stations on the islands, thus building the energy independence of the regions, while their use contributes to the reduction of utility bills. In addition, due to the replacement of heavy oil (HFO) by diesel (LFO), but also the lower noise during their operation, the new gas turbine units contribute to the improvement of the environmental footprint.

1.8GW of new flexible generation units by 2027 – flexibility, efficiency, stability

As flexible production units, with fast response, the new gas turbine units work in support of RES, characterized by thoughtfulness. In practice, they provide security to the power generation system as they help reduce the risk of sudden power outages.

Based on the Strategic Plan for the three years 2025-2027, PPC Group will invest significantly in flexible energy production projects – including gas turbines, pumped storage, etc. – aiming to add 1.8GW of installed capacity by 2027.
